Family-Owned Houston Jewelry Store: The History of Reiner’s Fine Jewelry

Now a famous and trusted Houston jewelry store with well esteemed master jewelers, Reiner’s Fine Jewelry actually got its start in New Orleans, Louisiana in the early 1900’s. The store was started and operated by three brothers: Morris, Nathan and Jacob Reiner. While the oldest brother, Morris, kept the original store, the other two would eventually branch out on their own. Jacob decided to stay in New Orleans and founded his own store, while Nathan, the adventurous one of the trio, decided to move with his wife and family of three to start his own jewelry store in Houston, TX. In February 1945, Reiner’s Jewelry was born in downtown Houston!

Nathan and his wife Bessie laid the foundation for the Reiner’s excellence of today. They would later be joined by their daughter, Dorothy, and their two sons, Irvin and Jack. Nathan’s love for delivering exceptional customer service and the finest value in jewelry stayed firm. He continued working at the shop and growing the business with his family well into his late eighties. The business and Nathan’s dream was eventually handed down to his daughter and two sons who would work together for many fine years. The store would move several times, though it always remained a popular landmark along Main Street in downtown Houston, TX.

Though Jack passed away at a young age, Dorothy and Irvin continued to work together. They were joined by the third generation, Irvin’s oldest son, Steven, and Jack’s oldest son, Lenny. In 1980, Steven showing his continued interest in the industry, traveled to California to attend the Gemological Institute of America. It was there that he became the store’s first ever Graduate Gemologist in Residence.

In 1992, Reiner’s Fine Jewelry sought a new direction. After many years of being in downtown, the store decided to take up new roots in the suburbs. So the store relocated to its current location, 2210 Westheimer. Dorothy has since passed away, but in the store today you will find the knowledgeable and friendly trio of master jewelers in Houston: Irvin, his son Steven and his nephew, Lenny.
